The Grow Along Challenge, Season One

The grow along challenge is the simplest idea on this site. Every season we all grow the same pepper, from seed to harvest, across every kind of space and climate, and we share photos as we go. One person grows it in a greenhouse, someone else on a fire escape, and the plants take wildly different paths from the exact same seed packet. That is the fun of it.

How the grow along challenge works

  1. Join The Heat Sheet. Every challenge runs through it, with monthly prompts and progress from the group.
  2. Plant the season’s pepper. Any pot, any spot, any skill level.
  3. Share your progress each month on the gallery page and cheer everyone else on.

This season we grow [variety]

Planting kicks off on [date]. Seeds are easy to find at [seed source], and the beginner guide covers everything you need to get them going. Whether it becomes your trophy plant or your glorious disaster, the group wants to see it.

Questions new growers ask

What is a grow along challenge?

Everyone plants the same pepper variety in the same season, shares photos as the plants develop, and compares notes along the way. It turns a solo hobby into a group project, and you learn faster watching a hundred versions of the same plant.

Do I need experience to join?

None at all. Beginners are the whole point. The season pepper always comes with a full growing guide, and the group has seen every possible disaster already, including several of mine.

What do I need to take part?

One packet of seeds, one pot, one spot with decent sun, and a phone camera. If you can grow it on a windowsill you can join the challenge.

Does it cost anything?

No. The challenge runs through the free newsletter. Your only cost is the seed packet, and the season announcement always points to an easy place to buy one.
